Avoid fabric softener with your outdoor undiesDirect from Malden Mills, makers of all manner of fleece, polypro and other techie types of outdoor fabrics, comes the word: avoid using fabric softener with these clothes. Malden says: “Fabric softeners are surfactants that soften the hand, but interfere with the chemistry that enhances the wicking characteristics. The wicking depends on passing water along the yarns near the body to those on the outside, but the water molecules lose adhesion because of the slick surface caused by fabric softeners. Washing again to remove the softener will recover the wicking action.” return to top of page Thanks to Mazama Dean Kokko for researching this tip |
