Belay tip - On which side of the body to tie into the anchor?

When setting up a belay, you often have a choice as to what side of your body your connection to the anchor goes to. A general rule of thumb:
1) If you are using a belay device, you should tie in on the same side as your brake hand.
2) If you are using a sitting hip belay (usually done in snow and not on rock), you should tie in on the opposite side of your brake hand.
Why? In the event of a fall, the belayer will be pulled into the most secure braking position by using the correct side of the body for the tie-in. It may be hard to visualize this by reading, but experiment with this and see how it works.
