Climbing maps - a better way to carry for rock climbingPhotocopy the route map and description, and cut and paste until it’s as compact as you can make it. Then, reduce it on a photocopier until you can just read it - this might be smaller for some than others. Most of the time you can get it down to about 4” x 6”. Laminate it with wide, clear packing tape on both sides. Add a small strip of duct tape (or better yet, reinforced strapping tape) to the bottom side of the map. Finally, punch a small hole through the reinforced duct taped part, and clip a mini “keychain” biner through the hole. Now you can clip the map to your harness or backpack shoulder strap and check it easily in the middle of the climb. (The hole on the bottom means you flip the map towards you and get to read the map right side up.) Clever, eh? |
