DIY - make a windscreen for your cannister micro stove
There are lot of “micro” canister stoves now on the market, one of the most popular being the MSR Pocket Rocket. These stoves are less expensive, lighter and pack smaller than most any other type. The main drawback: You cannot use a standard windscreen with them, because the canister might overheat and cause a loud flaming KA-BOOM!
Solution: a modified windscreen as shown at this website. As you can see from the photo below, the windscreen totally encloses the flame (greatly increasing stove efficiency), but keeps the canister safely away from the screen so it cannot overheat. This is a quick rainy day Do-It-Yourself (DIY) project. Use an aluminum roasting pan, available at any supermarket.
