“Ensure” your climbing success

I was on a Mt. Shasta climb a few years back with some fitness animals from the Lake Tahoe area - professional mountain bike racers and a top 10 finisher in the Western States 100 mile footrace, one of the toughest ultra-marathons around. (Needless to say, I was not leading the charge up the mountain.) These fitness gurus all had one common item in their packs - throughout the climb, they were drinking Ensure! That’s the “meal in a can” beverage found in most any supermarket. They said it was the tip to stay fueled during long endurance events.

Be sure to drink water in addition to Ensure to stay properly hydrated. After some initial skepticism, I’ve used it on every long climb I’ve tried in the last few years. It seems to work well for me. Give it a try! Note: It’s good practice to experiment with new food or gear on a day hike before you commit to a climb with it.
