Get hitched - Learn the Tautline and Trucker’s hitch

The tautline hitch and the trucker’s hitch are very useful knots to add to your outdoor bag o’ tricks. The tautline is generally used to fine-tune a tent guy line. The trucker’s hitch is handy for securing a load on the top of a car (or truck - get it?) by giving you a 2:1 mechanical advantage when you crank on the rope. (Attn: crevasse rescue folks - this is actually a C-drag system, with no pulleys or biners needed.) While not specifically for climbing, these are useful knots to learn once you have mastered the basics.

See this web site for examples of how to tie these.
