Neoprene gloves for winter

Looking for inexpensive gloves that will really keep you warm, give you reasonable dexterity (you can tie and untie knots with them on) and have a great grip (ice tools)? Try neoprene gloves, made for whitewater sports. These gloves are especially good for those activities when you are spending a lot of time with your hands actually in snow, like snowcave or igloo building.
Like wearing a wetsuit in cold water, your hands will get a little wet and may sweat a bit, but they will stay warm. Doing a lot of snow work with expensive Gore-Tex gloves and liners can give you heavy, wet $90 gloves - and cold hands. Doing the same work in neoprene gloves may well keep you warm and happy. Try them for nordic skiing, climbing, and snow play - pick them up at Andy and Bax (on SE Grand in Portland) for about $20.
