DIY - Quick candle lantern

A functional and cheap and candle lantern can be easily made from an empty aluminum pop can, a knife and a candle.  Make a vertical cut about three inches high on one side of the can, then make two horizontal cuts 3 inches long across the top and bottom of the vertical cut - basically making a capital letter “I”.  (Use a burly knife and ignore the wonderful noise of steel cutting aluminum.)
Fold the aluminum “wings” out, and put the candle inside.  The wings can be adjusted depending on the wind, the shiny inside of the can reflects and light, and if you really want to get fancy, you can tie use the pop top of the can to hang the lantern, using a forked stick, wire, or cord.  I’ve used these in tents and they work great.
