Quicklinks for alpine rappelsCarry a hardware store quicklink or two on alpine routes where you may be rappelling off of sling anchors - that is, most routes. These look like a link of chain that has a threaded side to it where it may be opened. They are cheap, strong and fast to attach around all the strands of the webbing that accumulates at rap stations. Although heavier, quicklinks are cheaper and more secure than leaving a carabiner. While single aluminum “rap rings” are still found at many rap stations, many climbers prefer not to trust these single points of gear.
