Use a door for climbing anchor practice

It’s off season, and you want to get your anchor building dialed before climbing starts.  You’ve got the Z drag for crevasse rescue down cold by yarding your sofa all over the living room, but what about all that anchor stuff?

Try a door!  A door works great for practicing the intricacies of anchor building.  Have another hot chocolate in the comfort of your own home while you puzzle out the intricacies of the cordelette, sliding X, and upward directionals. Use all three hinges and the doorknob.  You can use slings of two different lengths on the same hinge to simulate two different anchors.

It’s best to use cheapo nylon parachute cord or cotton clothesline girthed hitched around the hinges instead of your actual climbing runners, as any trace of oil or solvent such as WD-40 on the hinges can severely damage climbing webbing and rope.
