Use shrink-wrap tubing to seal ends on cord

There are several ways to seal ends on nylon cord.  A hot match or flame is easy but often deforms the end of the line. Tape works but is sticky.

Another way is to use shrink wrap tubing from the electronics industry to seal the ends of the cords such as prusik loops.  1/4” tubing works great.  Heat it with a heat gun or hair dryer to produce clean, easy to see ends on prusik loops.  This also produces an easily seen indicator of how much line is sticking out of the end of your knot. Keeping a piece or two of heat-shrink tubing in your repair kit is nice for repairing the ends of shoelaces as it keeps the shoelace at the original size or smaller. Tubing is some sizes is available in Radio Shack stores but the best selection in the Portland area is at Norvac Electronics, 7940 S.W.Nimbus Avenue, Suite #8, Beaverton, OR.
