Mazamas

Old Timers

The Mazamas have a group for those who have been members for over 25 years,
or over 60 years young - the Old Timers.  They meet regularly for luncheons, hikes,
and overnight trips.  See the monthly bulletin or contact us at the Mazama
Mountaineering Center (503-227-2345) for upcoming activities if you don’t see it here.

The Old-Timers’ are taking advantage of new-age technology and
are now contacting members by e-mail. It you have it, please check
your e-mail for activity reminders and for notices of future functions.
Those without e-mail will be phoned as usual.

If you know of a special activity that you think Old-Timers’
would enjoy, if you know of a place they would have fun visiting, or
if you know a different modified hike they would like, please email
Anne Jacobs (- -) and help her put it on our
schedule. We appreciate your input and help.

Sunday, October 28, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Mount Talbert
We will explore the new trails and facilities at Mount Talbert
Nature Park with Metro naturalist James Davis. This is the region’s
newest nature park (opening on October 6). It has 4.2 miles of trails
through 200 acres of conifer and streamside forests, oak woodlands
and prairie. Discover the variety of plants and animals that live on
the largest undeveloped lava butte in Northern Clackamas County.
It’s mushroom season and they will be identified. Bring binoculars or
borrow a pair from the leader. It is free, but advanced registration is
required; call North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District at 503-
794-8080 by October 22. You will receive directions to the site after
you register.
