Mazama Basic Rock Skills

Do you need to brush up on your basic rock climbing skills such as knots, tying in, climbing commands, belaying, rappelling, prusiking, passing protection on a fixed line, and cleaning a top rope anchor? Join us on the instructional climbing walls at the Mazama Mountaineering Center. You do not need to be a Mazama member to register for these climbing clinics.

Dates and Time:
During summer: Wednesday evenings, May 18, June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m.
During winter: Friday evenings, November 18, January 20, 2012, February 17, March 16 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Required Gear:  You need to bring a climbing harness, at least 3 locking and 2 non-locking carabiners, a belay device, a climbing helmet, personal protection (sometimes called a personal leash), prusik cords, and rock shoes or climbing boots.  You can rent rock shoes at The Mountain Shop (1510 NE 37th).

  • Cost $15 per evening clinic.

    Registration:  Please register online below.  Each clinic is limited to 10 students.  The cost for each clinic is $15, payable when you register.  Because of the small class size, there will be no refund if you don’t show up.  Admission at the door only if there is room in the class.
