Hood with 105 charter members 1895 - Lobbied for preservation of Cascade Range Forest Reserve 1896 - First outing to Crater Lake (naming of Mt. Mazama) 1897 - First outing to Mount Rainier 1903 - First Three Sisters outing 1907 - Seattle contingent splits off to form the Mountineers 1909 - Recommended establishment of “Mt. Baker National Park” 1912 - Local Walks started; Bulletin first published 1923 - First mountain lodge at Rhodendron below Laurel Hill 1926 - Yearly ‘official’ climbs increased to more than one or two 1931 - High mountain lodge constructed east of Government Camp 1931 - Initiated FWOC (see FWOC website) 1932 - Mt. Hood ‘acquaintance climbs’ begun 1935 - Climbing Committee established (was part of Local Walks) 1939 - Three year, rotating terms established for Executive Council 1944 - Mazamas celebrate 50th anniversary 1950 - Basic Climbing Education Program started 1952 - Policy of more climbs, smaller parties begun 1954 - Conservation Committee formally established 1955 - First effort to purchase a building for the Mazama offices and library 1959 - Mazama Lodge at Government Camp burns down 1960 - New lodge replaces old at a cost of $63,000 1964 - Lodge rope-tow and ski carnival attract new members

1914 - First Mazama offices at American Bank Building 1919 - Move to Chamber of Commerce Bldg., SW Third Avenue 1926 - Move to Pacific Building, SW Yamhill Street 1957 - Move to Offices at NW 19th Avenue 1978 - Remodel to improve layout 1999 - Added 1st floor and ‘annex’ space 2002 - Owner of NW 19th puts building up for sale 2005 - Mazamas purchase a new facility, at SE 43rd and Stark 2007 - Move to the new Mazama Mountaineering Center
