Trail Trip Awards

Mileage awards are presented at the Mazama annual banquet to Mazama members that participate in Trail Trip events and have submitted a list of their accomplishments to the Committee.  Please submit award applications by early September to be considered for an award in a given year.

 
• 250 mile award (patch and certificate):
     
  • 250 miles on Mazama hikes, etc.    
  • participation in one trail tending event (see Trail Tending)    
   

   

• 500 mile award (patch and certificate):
   

     
  • 500 miles on Mazama hikes, etc.    
  • participation in on snowshoe trek    
  • participation in two trail tending events    
  • participation in one backpack or snow bivouac    
   

   

• 1000 mile award (patch and plaque):
   

     
  • 1000 miles on Mazama hikes, etc. 300 of which have been on B, C or conditioner class of difficulty    
  • participation in two snowshoe treks    
  • participation in four trail tending events    
  • participation in one backpack or snow bivouac    
  • participation in one snow bivouac    
  • lead 25 hikes, rambles or other trail trip events    
   

   

• Additional 1000 mile increment awards:
   

     
  • another 1000 miles on Mazama hikes, etc. 300 of which have been on B, C or conditioner class of difficulty    
  • participation in an additional two snowshoe treks    
  • participation in an additional four trail tending events    
  • participation in an additional two backpacks or snow bivouacs    
  • lead an additional 25 hikes, rambles or other trail trip event
     

   

Leadership awards are presented at the Mazama annual banquet to Mazama members that lead Trail Trip events. The Committee tracks leadership. No submittals of accomplishments are required.

• 10 trail tending leads
• 25 trail tending leads
• 25 trail trip leads
• 50 trail trip leads
• 100 trail trip leads
• 150 trail trip leads
• 200 trail trip leads
• 300 trail trip leads

The Hardesty Cup is presented at the Mazama annual banquet to the Mazama member that has been exceptional in their dedication to the Mazamas’ efforts in trail trips. The Committee awards this honor to a currently active Member with the highest lifetime leadership points in trail trip events. The award can only be received once. No submittals of accomplishments are required. The criteria and point system used to choose the person is as follows:

• lead at least six events in the last three years
• 1 point for each lead of any trail trip event
• 1 point for leading a hike during an outing
• 1 additional point if a trail tending lead
