Research Grants - Youth Grant, Info & Application

The Youth Grant Program seeks to sponsor K-12 student projects, including research studies or activities relating to the natural environment and the interaction between people and the wilderness in the Pacific Northwest.  To achieve this goal, the Mazamas will award grants of between $250 and $1,000 for student projects.  A wide range of disciplines will be considered for grants.  These include, but are not limited to, biology, ecology, conservation, climatology, geology, anthropology and environmental engineering.

To Apply
Submit not more than a three-page typewritten proposal in 12 point font (single or double spaced) that includes the following points.
Please submit an email copy and one hard copy of your proposal.

1. Title of the project and applicant’s name, address and affiliation.  (Consider providing a summer address as well since you will be contacted regarding a funding/no funding decision during the summer break.)
2. A one-paragraph abstract, including objectives
3. The approx. number of students expected to participate
4. An estimate of the total project cost
5. Expected educational benefits to students and community
6. Expected beneficial effects on the environment
7. Feasibility of attaining the objectives

Applications are due January 25, 2008.  Applicants will be notified in May 2008.

Conditions

1. Within 12 months of the time the grant is awarded, the awardee(s) must submit a final report concerning the project
2. Mazamas support should be acknowledged in any publication resulting from the grant
3. Equipment worth over $100 must become the property of the school of sponsoring organization

The Mazamas reserves the right to modify the budget of, partially fund, or deny funding to any proposal regardless of available funds.  The Mazamas Executive Council is responsible for final approval of grants.
