Grants

The original 1894 bylaws of the Mazamas stated that one of our primary purposes was: “ . . . to explore mountains, to disseminate authoritative and scientific information concerning them, and to encourage the preservation of forests and others features of mountains in their natural beauty.”

This mission of exploration, research and conservation are now carried out partially through the distribution of grants to qualified individuals and institutions who share these goals.

The Mazamas offer grants in three main areas. Please explore the links below to find more detailed information.

Research Grants
Awarded to faculty, graduate students and K-12 students for research relating to wilderness and the mountain environment.

Conservation Grants
Generally awarded to non profit conservation organizations.

Expedition Grants
Awarded to individuals or teams attempting significant expedition style ascents.
