HOW TO UNDERSTAND and PREPARE FOR HIKES:   To better understand how hard or long these hikes are, click on this link to the hiking codes http://www.mazamas.org/your/adventure/starts-here/C90/.  To enjoy these hikes, you must bring the proper gear. We have developed this checklist to give you a better understanding of what to bring: http://www.mazamas.org/your/adventure/starts-here/C459/. Lastly, the hiking fee for non-members is $4.  Bring small bills for this and for car pooling costs. Please do come and enjoy.

TIPS of the MONTH

Poison Oak: Because of all our rain, the Poison Oak is huge and prolific this year. Beware! Leaves of three, leave it be. Also, if you see some, please warn the rest of the party, especially hikers who do not know how to recognize it.

Ticks: Also, watch out for ticks, especially on the Elk-King Traverse and the top of Hamilton. Always be sure to do a tick check when you return from hiking.

AYM is also hiking.  Adventurous Young Mazamas (AYM) leads hikes too and everyone is welcome.  Check out:  http://www.mazamas.org/your/adventure/starts-here/C74.

Fall is a great, energizing time to hike but weather can change on very short notice.  Remember to bring a stout windbreaker, especially at higher altitudes.

Always remember to pay and thank your carpool driver.  While you may nap on the way home from a hike, they must remain alert to get you home safely.

Portland Street Rambles

We are no longer putting street rambles intermixed in with the hike schedule. Instead, ramble information is in this space. Rambles are held every Tues, Wednesday and Thursday evening. Descriptions are below. Sometimes there are special rambles that don’t conform to this schedule or meet at a different place. In that case, they will be listed separately in this space.
