TIPS of the MONTH

• Remember that weather can change rapidly in popular hiking areas, particularly higher elevations near treeline in the mountains. Check weather websites that can give you detailed, elevation-specific forecasts, such as http://www.weather.gov and http://www.mountain-forecast.com. Come prepared for inclement weather, regardless of the forecast.
• Bring plenty of water, but don’t forget to eat. Especially on a hot day when you’re drinking lots of water, you need to replace the salt you’re losing. Salty foods and electrolyte drink powder/tablets to add to your water can be helpful for keeping you feeling good and energetic on the trail.
• Sun protection (Sunglasses, sunscreen, and lip balm) is part of the Hiker’s 10 Essentials, but sometimes if it’s an overcast day, it’s easy to forget to use it. Remember, it’s possible to get a nasty sunburn or painfully chapped lips when hiking on a cloudy day!
• 10 Essentials - do you have them all? Learn more about them here: http://www.mazamas.org/your/adventure/starts-here/C459/
• Always remember to pay and thank your carpool driver (a contribution of $0.10/mile is recommended). Bring change for this.

AYM is also hiking  Adventurous Young Mazamas leads hikes too and all are welcome.  http://www.mazamas.org/your/adventure/starts-here/C74.

Portland Street Rambles Tuesday and Thursday from REI - Downtown

Sometimes there are special rambles that don’t conform to this schedule or meet at a different place. In that case, they will be listed separately in this space.
